best way to get from Newark to Manhattan

What is the best (easiest-not too expensive) way to get from the Newark airport to our hotel (Sheraton somewhere around Times Square)? We will be getting in to Newark around 5 on Thanksgiving Day. Also - traveling with children. Taxi, bus, car service...?

Car service dial7.com will probably be cheaper than taxi. Sounds like there are at least 4 of you so public transportation which is priced per person makes no sense.

We learned about dial7.com on Fodor's and my daughter just used itto go from Newark to midtown Manhattan. She was completely satisfied and arranged for the trip back to Newark with the same driver.

With kids, a car service will be best. The traffic won't be too horrible at that time of the day (the parade crowd will be cleared out by then).

Do not take a regular taxi! I made this mistake a few months ago and paid in the range of $80! (And I am a local!)

Car service is the way to go!

ekscrunchy is right. Taxis cost more because the trip is across state lines.

The NJ-based taxi you take from the airport is not allowed to pick up a fare in Manhattan and so will charge you extra for its empty trip back to NJ.

The same is true of a Manhattan-based taxi going to Newark.

Assuming therre are 4 of you a car service is the best option. Shutle bus wold cost at least as much. Public transit might be cheaper - but not if you have to deal with watching kids and luggage through multiple changes (Air Train to Train to Penn Station to subway or cab) including long passageways and dragging luggge up and downstairs.

Try Carmel or Dial 7. And check out the web sites for discount coupons.

I have taken a bus from Newark Airpot into mid-town Manhattan --around 42 Street, about $15.

If you were solo the bus, which goes to Penn Station and then grand Central, would be fine. More than one person, get a car service.
