The only drawback to traveling to Hawaii during spring break is the crowds at the mainland airports, and airfare. As Dusty mentioned, Hawaii doesn't get the crazy crowds that other destinations do for Spring Break.

If you can, I'd aim for March so you have a better chance of seeing more whales. Here's my pictoral account of my whale watching trip last February....and even at that point it was a bit of a challenge.

Patrick, we ususally go in July and August and love it. Everyone says it is the most crowded time to go, but we've never noticed, but we do go to Kauai and that is less visited than the others (for good reason). It is hotter, there is less rain and the surf is low on the north shore of the island at that time of year. Perfect for floating in the calm waters.
