Best Places to See Fall Foliage in Michigan
My husband and I are considering flying into Detroit and doing a driving trip in Michigan. Has anyone heard the fall foliage forecast for 2018 and whether it will likely follow the usual dates or be early or late? Which areas have the most beautiful displays of fall foliage? What route would you suggest leaving from and returning to Detroit?
If we drove to Niagara Falls first, which would be more scenic?
1. The drive from there north through Canada and the upper peninsula to Mackinac and then south to Detroit. I read that the western side of the state is more scenic.
2. Back-tracking to Detroit and heading north to Mackinac area and then back to Detroit following a different route? If we do this, what routes would you suggest?
We are primarily interested in just seeing the beautiful foliage (we don't have that where we live), some pretty waterfalls, and some time along the coast. Seeing a few lighthouses would be a treat!
We're in the early stages of planning so any feedback would be appreciated.
