Hi.A small group of us from NYC are driving up to Glover, Vermont to catch the peak season of fall foliage and to relax. Could anyone recommend a scenic drive from Manhattan(NYC) to Glover,Vermont?(Our cabin is in Glover.) Also, along the way, we are looking to go apple picking..any suggestions? If there are any other suggestions as far as places to see, I welcome them. It's our first time to vermont and we want this to be a memorable trip.Thank you!

for seeing the colours Vermont is THE place...i'm not so sure about apple picking- not my favorite fruit

Where is Glover? I never heard of the place and we live here!

If that's up Rte 22 (western side of the state), Shoreham Orchards are up there and have picking.

I is likely that apple picking is done in Vermont - it is even nearing end in Massachusetts. Pickyourown.org gives pick your own farms in Massachusetts - you could stop on way north or south.

Eventually you will want to be on I-91. You can cut across from NY State at Rt. 2 (northern MA), the Mass Pike (central MA), or I-81 or Merritt Parkway (CT).

The first option is most scenic and slowest travel (longest route, slow road); the third is least scenic and fastest travel; the second is in the middle. I'm thinking Mass Pike for the best combination this this-traffic weekend, but really not sure.

If you can't find apple picking, look for a pick-your-own pumpkin patch with a hayride. For example, you could stop at McCray's farm in Hadley, MA. I'm sure there are many similar options on your route.

Glover is in the Northeast Kingdom, near Barton. Try Crow Hill Orchards in St. Johnsbury. Give 'em a call first to see if there is still picking available.
If you are dog fans, be sure to check out Stephen Huneck's Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury. Take Route 2 east out of St. Johnsbury. Look for Spaulding Road on left about 3 miles from town. There will be a sculpture there of a couple dogs pulling it's owner. Take a left on Spaulding Rd, and another left on Park Road. This will take you right up to dog mountain.
