Best off-Broadway shows for September 2012

I'm visiting my daughter Sept. 20-25 in Manhattan. We want to see a good off-BWay show but need some suggestions. I've seen musicals but haven't been to a play in ages. I'm pretty open as far as comedy/drama.

It's not "off" B'way -- but you might consider War Horse (at Lincoln Center). It's typically available at 50% off at the TKTS booth.

I'd really like to see Jake Gyllenhaal in “If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet”.

Exonerated will be revived.

Cock is off b'way and although it has been advertised in some ads as a comedy, it is definitely a drama with some funny lines. The actors are wonderful.

Kathleen Chalfant will be appearing in a new off b'way play called Red Dog Howls that looks interesting.

I saw Tribes a few months ago and really enjoyed it. It would be a great play to see with your daughter - while it focuses on the interactions of one specific family and their communication problems with their deaf son, it hits the universal theme of the changing relationship between parents and their adult children. I also loved seeing Mare Winningham "live", as I've followed her acting career for so many years.
