Best mini-golf courses....

OK, I have a nephew who loves miniature golf -- not the serious putt-putt kind but the full-tilt-boogie kind with windmills and waterfalls and bells and whistles. It's the first thing he looks for on a trip.

Where have you played (or seen) really good mini-golf places? They tend to be mainly in resort areas, but any near you? Any truly memorable, creative ones?

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina supposdly has the best/most MG courses of anywhere.

We played on the course that hosts the US Open of MG. Tough

Door County, Wisconsin, has three, including the ever-popular Pirate's Cove, but my favorite was Red Putter.

Memorable and creative would describe the Guerneville Pee Wee Golf, at the Russian River in Northern California.

I've never actually played there, because it has been closed intermittently due to flooding, but it always gives me a crazy thrill when I drive by.

The two best mini-golf places I've ever played are Boberg's in King's Beach, California, and TommyGolf in Forte di Marmi, Italy. the former is old, creative, and unlike the newer castle-type golf places. When there's a windmill, you actually have to get your ball between the spinning blades (as opposed to a windmill that's there just for decoration). TommyGolf was a kick -- it almost seemed home-made.
