Best, least expensive way to get from Dulles to hotel in DC

Our hotel does not have a shuttle. I e-mailed them and they suggested a driver, whom we called yesterday and found he only transports groups.

I know there is a shuttle and, of course taxis, but would appreciate any suggestions for transfers to and from Dulles.

Our air is reserved, so no possibility of using another airport.

You can always take the bus to the West Falls Church metro stop and then take the subway into DC. I believe it is 8 dollars for the bus, and less than 2 dollars for the Metro. You will be on the "Orange Line", so go to www.wmata.com and look at a map and find the closest subway stop to you hotel.

The website for Dulles is http://www.mwaa.com/. Click on "transportation options" for information on public and private transportation.

For further info on using the metro, from the website: "The Washington Flyer Coach Service provides direct transportation between Dulles and Metrorail, the region's rapid-transit system. Washington Coach Service is available every 30 minutes to link the West Falls Church (VA) Metrorail Station and the Airport. Metrorail farecards may be purchased from machines located at the rail station. For Metrorail information, call (202) 637-7000; TDD (202) 638-3780."

A helpful website for almost every airport in the world is worldairportguide.com

Thank you both. I already went to the Dulles website, that's where I found the shuttle.

Anyone else?

Another option is Metrobus Route 5A-- Express service from Dulles to L'Enfant Plaza in downtown DC, with a stop at the Rosslyn metro station. Fare is less than $3. From either Rosslyn or L'Enfant, you could take the subway for $1.20 each, but a taxi to any central DC hotel would be under $10.

The drawback is that buses run only every hour.

If you don't want shuttles or taxis, what exactly are you looking for, given that you are aware that no rail mass transit serves the airport. I am sensing you are not a bus type, so it would be helpful to know what type of transport you want and how much you want to pay.

Mike: It looks like the shuttle or a taxi will be it. I was in hopes there were several private drivers available (like there are in London, Rome, etc.). Since it is the nation's capitol didn't think that would be too much to hope for.

Thanks again to those who took the time to respond!

These are limosine/private cars available at Dulles. Some have internet sites and some have toll-free numbers. Good luck.
