Can't believe nobody has mentioned Milwaukee. The city, in its earlier years, was filled German and Polish immigrants. There are still mom and pop sausages houses - hand made sausages - recipes passed on from generation to generation.

I am also from the Boston area - where is the old Polish neighborhood? I'd love to find the store to get some really good kielbasa. Dorchester? Southie? Please elaborate.....I am getting hungry!

In case anyone is still wondering, Under the Eagle in Hamtramck, MI is a FANTASTIC polish restaurant! You can do Polish for dinner and then head to Greece for desert. Have some great Baklava in Greektown! I do have to say though that the best kielbasa I have ever had was in Cedar, MI at a store called Pleva's. Mmmmm cherry smoked kielbasa. Tasty!

The best Kielbasi could be found in a number of places in Northeast PA. Schiff's (Dickson City, PA) and Kutsop's Market in Dickson City as well. I had of Kaminiski's (Duryea, PA) but have not had it in a long time. All are excellent. The rest of the world has no idea how good it is here.

I know I'm really late to the party on this one, but I couldn't help commenting. Hamtramck is great, no doubt. However, the absolute best sausage on the continent is made in the old ways in another part of Detroit. Try the chunky style kielbasa at Markowycz's European Home Style Sausage. It's a cash only shop, but you will know you got the real thing when your car stinks of garlic by the time you get home.

In case you are still hungry from nine years ago, East Village Meat Market makes about 8 different varieties of kielbasa.

To tell you the truth I have not traveled the country surveying kielbasa but the a local Burmese restaurant uses it in their egg roll.

Coming from a polish girl and having my fair share of kielbasa some of my favorites are from Stanley's Market in Toledo and/or from Dearborn Market in Michigan.
