Best Hotels

My family cannot decide what hotels to stay at on our vacation. We are going to Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island in August. What hotels do you suggest?

I've heard a lot of good things about the Kauai Prince, and the Westin Maui. Is there a budget in mind/ cost per night?

Do condos, not hotels. Less expensive, more room, better ambiance.

Under $300 -- for the Big Island either a condo in Kona or the Hilton up in Waikoloa. When you say 'family' I'm assuming children so it might depend on the ages of your children. Hilton is wonderful for families, has outstanding pools and a dolphin program.

For Kauai, if you can afford it (perhaps save hotel money by staying in condo on the other two islands?) then the Hyatt would be my choice. In addition to being lovely and friendly their pools are the best. You asked for 'best' hotels, and in my opinion Hyatt is the best on the island.

I haven't been to Maui in years so I am not up to date on the best places to stay there. Way back in 1989 we stayed at Kaanapali Shores (condos) and loved it but I've read that they have not been kept up well and could use a lot of work.
