FWIW, if you're just talking about location (not hotel quality), both the Four Seasons and The Westin Market Street are on/near Market Street, close to, but not actually at, Union Square. Just clarifying for other folks who might be reading.

We travel to SF every Thanksgiving and by far find the best Hotel for Theater, shopping and geneally great location is the Grand Hyatt on Union Square. You can get some great rates, FF points, and take the Hotel drop off bus to/from Airport, walk to major shopping destinations and many theaters...
They have a fabulous complimentary Concierge team...

1JAR, by "hotel drop off bus", so you mean the super-shuttle or the airport express? Your post implied that there is a hotel shuttle that might even be free, which is not the case, and the other two, of course, pick up at all the hotels. (Grand Hyatt might be a great hotel, I don't know, I live here and don't often stay in hotels here).

For informational purposes, I arrived late at night at SFO, so decided to take a shared shuttle. That was $17 + tip, and got me there very quickly (there was only one other passenger). On the way back to SFO, I was about 2-3 blocks from BART, so just took that. I think the cost was around $8.50 to the airport.
