Best hotel in downtown Boston?

Can anyone tell me what the best hotel in Boston is? We have plans to go in October for a long weekend. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The Four Seasons Hotel is often mentioned as Boston's top hotel. It's in a great location in the Back Bay over-looking Boston Public Garden, and within walking distance of the Theater District, Beacon Hill, The South End,etc. I've never stayed there but have attended functions and eaten at it's restaurants and the food and service was great. If I was visiting Boston and could afford to stay at the Four Seasons, I would in a second.

The Four Seasons, certainly, but also check out XVI (16 Beacon), a new, very upscale hotel that has recently opened on Beacon Hill. A suite at the Bostonian would put you very much in the center of things, as would one at the Rowe's Wharf Hotel.

Any of the hotels connected to the indoor shopping mall would be great. We just stayed at the Westin and we were very happy with the service.

Hi:
I just wanted to let you know that
Neal thought the hotel was Rowes Wharf
but it is really the Boston Harbor Hotel
located at Rowes Wharf.
I also agree the Four Seasons and XVI
Beacon are closer to the center but
the boston Harbor Hotel is on the waterfront and can be gotten to by taking the airport shuttle boat which is
a short ride. Have fun. El

We recently stayed at the Westin Copley Place, and can heartily second the previous recommendation. Try to get a top-floor room with a river view - arguably the best hotel view in Boston.
And, as mentioned in an earlier posting, it's at one end of the indoor mall the stretches for blocks. Very convenient location, too, across the street from the T stop. By the way, try the room service menu - the food is a cut above most that I've tried.

to correct Neal: it's XV Beacon (not XVI) - sorry to be petty

Some days I can't get anything right! OK, it's the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf, and the XV Hotel on beacon Hill. Sheesh.

We just got back from Boston today and spent a week walking around town. We stayed at the Colonnade and we were dissapointed. We were expecting a grand time and got a so so time from them. The town is fantastic. Any questions don't hesitate to drop a line.
