I agree with the other posters - a trip from Calif to Oahu is super easy to plan yourself - and that's half the fun! You could check websites from tour companies like Pleasant Hawaiian and the like because they do give some good info & descriptions about hotels that you could find useful.
First determine your dates and whether they're flexible or not. Then figure out your budget as it applies to lodging - do you want a high-end resort or a smaller, more "quaint" hotel or something in between. You can go to hotel websites and check prices, or call them directly, or try priceline, expedia, etc. Sometimes airline websites offer hotel info too, so check there as well.
You can even book some of your activities in advance - using websites like HawaiiEvents.com. Not to mention the wealth of info, advice & direction you can gain here - either by searching past posts or posting new ones.
Even so, if you still feel compelled to use a package or agency - check them out thoroughly and get confirmations on EVERYTHING and check and re-check up until your departure.

Check a number of places- the hotel direct, pleasantholidays.com (check air & hotel combo), classiccustomvactions.com (need travel agent but the will beat pleasant by at least $50), funjetvacations.com, pandaonline.com (a hawaii travel agency) and each individual airline for air/hotel packages.

We used Anne Rose at www.celebrate-travel.com and she was great and beat every price I found online. She books through classic custom vacations I think.

We used Yaling at Hawaii Aloha Travel for a flight/car rental package for the Big Island coming up this August. We're in So. Cal. She beat everyone's prices. www.hawaii-aloha.com
