> Rent a car with GPS, we got lost a few times trying to get thru Kailua or to the beaches in that area and driving into Honolulu. Apart from that it's very easy to drive on the other side of the road.

I can recommend Pinkys Pupus in Kailua, they seem to cater for kids and the food/drinks were very good.

(aloha) Yes I thoroughly enjoyed the $12.95 brunch buffet at the Shorebird. It has a beautiful open air setting right in off the beach. You pay when you enter, get a 'reserved' sign to place on a table, then help yourself to the food and beverages. It's lovely. And I think well priced for what it is.

(needsun) I'm pretty sure that you can only eat at one cafe at Hale Koa, that's the Barefoot Bar down on the beach. Only military can stay at the hotel, use the other restaurants and facilities.
