Best accomodation inside the Grand Canyon South rim?
We are visiting in mid March. Looking for an upscale (if possible) resort within extremely close proximity to the south rim Grand Canyon or inside.
Thanks
Also, what will the weather be?

If you're visiting this March, you may not have much of a choice. Rim hotels book up well in advance. The nicest is El Tovar.
Last March when we were there it was heavily snowing when we arrived with poor visibility. It finally cleared up but there were about 6 inches of snow on the ground and the temps were 20-30s.

El Tovar is the one--it is right next to the Canyon. See www.grandcanyonlodges.com for more info and to check availability (good luck!)

There are no upscale hotels at the Grand Canyon. These are national park lodges, not resorts. El Tovar is the nicest. Lodges tend to book up months in advance. As travel is down at the Canyon and you are going in March, you might be able to get a room. There are some chain hotels Quality Inn and Suites in in Tuscyan (the entrance to the Canyon.) They aren't resorts or upscale either.
March is winter. You are at a high elevation and you can expect cold weather and snow.

Just keep calling back for cancellations. That's what we did to get rooms at El Tovar for August. I called several times before getting a room. However, it looks like we won't be taking the trip so now I will have to cancel. Hint, hint.
