As to the audio guide, haven't done it, but have no strong feeling for or against it. Certainly not necessary, but it's probably not expensive if it appeals?

I'll be heading to Acadia in a few weeks for maybe the 12th time, one of my favorite places ever.

When I worked in the Grand Tetons, I managed the audio tour rentals at the GTLC.

I was dating the daughter of a career park ranger there, and we tried the audio tour for kicks.

We found it enormously incorrect.

Best place to eat? We live in Maine and go to Acadia every year, and always love eating at the Terrace at the Bar Harbor Inn. Had the best lobster roll ever there, and you cannot beat the scenery if you sit outside. We ate inside once too, and even though we were casually dressed, we were treated graciously. (Have never stayed at the Inn however)

Thurston's in Bernard offers lobster in a more rustic setting.

We always make the hike up the Gorham trail, which is a reasonable hike, and are afforded spectacular views. You can do a loop beginning at Sand Beach, go up Gorham, come down exiting at the trailhead, and walk along the shore back to Sand Beach. You could do the Cadillac mountain trail, which is longer and also with wonderful views along the way. You might like the Great Head trail, too which you can pick up from Sand Beach.
