Bar Harbor..looking for secluded waterview house/cottage.

Anyone have any recommendations for a private, quiet house/cabin with a water view, preferably
with lots of trees too! Don't want anyone else right next to us. Only 1 bedroom required but more okay too. Just looking for a great view while relaxing, reading and sipping wine!

Can't speak about Bar Harbor, it's much too crowded for us, but we loved Winter Harbor just "downeast" I probably shouldn't mention it, since so many places we like "get discovered"

However, if you're looking for a typical small Maine town, check it out. Schoodic Point, part of Acadia, was also a great place to walk or you could sit and read while the surf booms on. There is a ferry to Bar Harbor if you want to explore it for a while and don't feel like driving.

Forgot to say...

We stayed at Main Stay Cottages. Nice, clean, overlooking a cove, no trees however, but a sunny deck for that glass of wine. Beach with TONS of sea glass. Short walk to town.

My husband grew up in the Bar Harbor area and we go back there frequently to visit family and friends. We have rented several houses/cabins in the area. There is a real estate agency in Bar Harbor (on the island) that has vacation house rentals. The website is: www.swanagency.com.

We have also had good luck renting homes from www.vrbo.com (which stands for Vacation Rentals by Owner).

Bar Harbor is located on Mt. Desert Island, and there are other small towns on the island that you could stay in, such as Southwest Harbor, and Northeast Harbor. The traffic in the summer would be less if you stayed near one of these towns instead of Bar Harbor. The island itself is not that large. You can get anywhere in about a half hour.

We stayed recently in an excellent B & B in Southwest Harbor. I highly recommend it, The Kingsleigh Inn.

You are going to pay more to stay on the island rather than just off the island on the mainland. I agree with Clousie.... Winter Harbor is charming, as is also the Schoodic Point area.

Clousie - ssshhhhhh - don't let the secret get out. Winter Harbor is great. I've been hankering for an iced coffee from Gerrish all winter long.
