Baltimore on a Budget

Looking for a North Baltimore hotel for <$100. All I ask is that it be clean and safe. Any ideas?

What do you mean by North Baltimore? We just stayed at the Holiday Inn on Cromwell Bridge Rd. in Towson (just over the northern city line) for $42/night (Hotwire, 3*, Towson). Initially, I was disappointed that it was a Holiday Inn. But, this place was really terrific. The room (all furnishings were brand new) was just as nice as any Hilton or Sheraton we've stayed in recently.

Hi~
I am not sure exactly what area you are looking for, but last summer I got a great deal using Priceline. We got the Marriott (or it could have been Hilton, can't remember) right across from the Inner Harbor. It's a very large hotel that's entirely made of glass (I think it looked like mirror from the outside) with great views. I think we paid $55 or $60.

If there are just two of you and you're okay with the possibility that you may get just one bed.... try using Priceline. IMHO the best set of instructions on how to bid wisely for the lowest price (in terms of being concise and easy to understand) is on www.betterbidding.com That site may also have some recent winning bid info for Baltimore. www.biddingfortravel will also have winning bid info going back to earlier dates - I'd check both sites in the process of planning.

I stayed in the Inner Harbor this past fall at the Renaissance Hotel and paid $60 or $70 on PL.

For our recent visit, I booked the Holiday Inn on Cromwell Bridge Rd. through Hotwire for Tues-Thur nights. Nothing on Hotwire for the weekend looked appealing. I bid over and over again on Priceline for the five night stay. In my experience, bidding a multi-night stay on Priceline that includes weekday and weekend nights is quite problematic, because usually weeknight rates are considerably higher than weekend rates, or perhaps not all of your dates are available, and this time was no exception. But, once I had booked the weeknights with Hotwire, I returned to Priceline to bid on Fri-Sat nights. Even so, (and there are lots of free re-bid zones with no 4*'s for Baltimore), my bid for a 4* was not accepted until I got up to $110. Just because someone else reports a winning bid of $60 or $70 for a particular hotel does not mean that you'll be just as lucky. When bidding on Priceline, there are no constants; only variables - the season, your dates, days of the week, hotel's projected fill rate, etc.

PS I meant to mention that it was the Renaissance Harborplace we got with Priceline for $110 for the weekend.
