We need alot of help finding a hotel in New York well under $200...There are several couples that will be attending a family wedding and will be staying for at least 4 days in New York City. Location isn't a problem--we use the subways often.The wedding is this summer,but I need to look now as I know summer is imposiible in the city. I am freaked out by the prices I have been finding. Please help! Thanks

If you're set on dates and number of rooms needed, try Hotwire or even Priceline.

If for some reason you can use Priceline or hotwire, try looking at www.applecorehotels.com and try the Edison Hotel at http://www.edisonhotelnyc.com/index.asp (although I think it's too early to book for next year on their website, you might have to call direct and be sure to ask for a AAA rate if you are a member because they do offer a discount.

Also try www.hotels.com for lots of listings and you can compare amenities, location and rates.

If you have a particular location, hotel etc. in mind, contact the manager directly and try to negotiate a rate for your party. The Hilton NY and the Times Square Hilton seem to come fairly regularly on Priceline, so if either of those appeal to you, I'd try phoning them and see if they can give you a rate of $150/night. They come up on Priceline for $120-180. The Millenium Hilton (all the way downtown) also is showing up for $150 on Priceline bids.

I'll also add, don't be freaked by prices for the rest of this year. It's always pricier than the summer (or at least has been).

Courtyard by Marriott is another idea for good value. Their Eastside and Times Square hotels are good. The Travel Inn is another good budget option and they're the only hotel with free parking in NYC if any of the guests happen to be driving in. They also have an outdoor pool I think.

Summer in the city is actually quite reasonable - it's October through December that are expensive.

How many rooms will you need? You may want to use Priceline (keeping in mind that limits you to two people per room) or contact some hotels directly and try to negotiate a rate based on the number of room/nights.

Applecore is a local basic chain while Affinia is a chain of moderate hotels. Either might be willing to negotiate.

You don't say what time of year. That could make a big difference in prices. Have you tried the B&Bs?
