Balcony seats at St James Theater, NYC.
I've been reading reviews on where to sit at St. James Theater. I read that Row A of the Balcony has some obstructions that you have to hunch over to see so I was thinking about Row B of the Balcony I was wondering if anyone knew if these seats were good?
Or if I should pay the extra money for Orchestra seats row H?
Any input on seating would be great! Thanks

Do you mean the front mezzanine? If so, you're probably referring to the railing in front of the seats. It can be a minor nuisance. So, go with row B. Obviously, there very little difference in terms of the view you'll get of the show.

The St James is a very "shallow" theater in my opinion. By that I mean, you can sit pretty far back in the Orch and still feel like you are close to the stage. The problem I have in Mezz row B is that the people who are leaning in row A are more of an obstruction than the railing. They lean out and then you can't see. I would go for the row A mezz and do the leaning. LOL. The other thing about the St James orch -- there is absolutly NO leg room if you're in the middle of a row.

The balcony at the st. james is HORRIBLE. There are major obstructions blocking your view. If you are talking about Balcony then go for mezz by all means. However - if you are going to see American Idiot - the show has not been selling well during the week. I have gone with rear mezz seats 3 times mid week and all 3 times i was upgraded to front mezz and the balcony people (all 36 of them) have been moved to rear mezz and the balcony closed. No guarantee of course, just FYI.

The orchestra is great, and I remember enjoying My One and Only (Tommy Tune) from the second or third row of the mezzanine in about 1984.
In 1956 I saw Li'l Abner from the balcony and swore I would never sit there again. In those days, what is now the "balcony" was then the "second balcony," and there was a separate entrance to it--those with seats in the "second balcony" were not welcome in the lobby. The same was true of a few other Broadway theaters at that time. (The balcony at the Shubert and Broadway are also to be avoided.)
