B & B in Newport RI

We have friends who are going to Newport this summer and called to ask us to suggest a place to stay. This stumped us, as we always stay at my m-i-l's family house. My husbnad came up with Touro Park Inn as being close enough to walk to the waterfront, but not as noisy as actually staying that far in town. Anyone have suggestions? They are looking for a "fun" B&B or boutique hotel.

Have you thought about Block Island? It is an island just off of the coast from Newport, R.I.. We stayed there at a bed and breakfast and absolutely loved it. The island is quaint and beautiful. Shoreline, light houses, great food and beautiful landscapes. Definately will go back.

Here is a link to a recent post I responded to about lodging adn B&B's in newport which might be helpful. Also, on this post is yet another link to activities and lodging with more specific info.

This is the first time I've tried compressing a link into a "tiny url" on the advice of another poster here on Fodors, so if it doesn't work, let me know by posting back. It listed a lot of possibilities for lodging.

Try www.newportreservations.com and call their 800 number. They will give you options, know what is available and make reservations for you at any size lodging. No charge. Great service.

Thanks for your help! I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make a decision!

Francis Malbone Inn on Thames Street is the best B&B in Newport in my opinion. The location, atmosphere, great custom made breakfasts, afternoon tea, amenities, service, service & more service! A real home away from home.
