Going to grand canyon the end of Sept and looking for some input. Going to Sedona and then the grand canyon. Looking at the Kings Ransom in Sedona and The Grand Hotel in the canyon. Any comments or suggetions would be appreciated. Thanks

Our family just came home from a similar trip last week. We stayed at the Yavapai Lodge at the Grand Canyon. We stayed in the newer north end of the lodge and liked it alot. We had dinner at the El Tovar and it was great. In Sedona we stayed at Sedona Real Inn and would say that it was just okay. They have a nice breakfast buffet. But be aware that if they put you on the second floor there is no elevator and we had to lug our stuff up a flight of stairs. Other than the breakfast and the nice people that work there I wouldn't recommend it.

Grand Hotel looks OK from outside (haven't stayed there), but just FYI it's in Tusayan, not in the Grand Canyon village. Tusayan is about 1/4 mile south of the entrance to the park and about 7 miles from the first rim overlooks. Most visitors would prefer staying inside the park if possible at one of the seven hotels/lodges on or near the rim, but if there are no vacancies inside the park then Tusayan is the best alternate option.

Late Sept is a good time to be visiting these places.

I think there are better places to stay in Sedona then Kings Ransom but the Elote Cafe is one of the best places to eat in Sedona at the Kings Ransom hotel..its on a busy highway/street with lots of construction going on right in front of it..
I would go for Sedona Rouge, BW Inn of Sedona, Hyatt Pinion, Garland Lodge..
Enchantment resort for high end..
La Quinta Inn and Days Inn for under $100.

Just returned from 6 day trip. Sedona,Grand Canyon and Phoenix. Sedona is great! Stayed at Hilton at Sedona--great place. Grand Canyon is perfect. Stayed at Grand Hotel--okay but not enough personnel in restaurant or pub. The whole town (Tusayan) didn't have enough personnel at any restaurant. Don't stay there. Stay in the Park. You'll enough it much more. Phoenix is really nice, stayed at Boulders--very nice.
