AZ in March?
Hi, My husband and I will be in AZ in March. We will be in Tempe for a few days, then have some free time after that. Should we rent a car and drive to Sedona and the Grand Canyon or is it too cold? I've never seen the Grand Canyon and would love to, however I am concerned about the weather. Should we head South instead? Is Tucson worth visiting? We will definitely visit Phoenix and Scottsdale while in Tempe. Also, can anyone recommend a great golf course in the Tempe area? There are so many. Thanks!

March is actually usually a nice time for Sedona.....that's when me & DH are going out too. I would say that it's in the 60's to 70's.....nights are cold though. If I am wrong, someone let me know......

I can help with some of this.
First, the weather probably will be great in Tempe/Phoenix/Scottsdale area in March. However, it can be unpredicatable heading north to the G.C.
You might catch some decent weather, or it might even snow (as it did once when we were there in the 1st week in April.) I'd say your best bet is to check the weather reports for the G.C. area. If it looks good, take a ride up there. If not, don't.
You might also get some cool weather in Tucson that time of year. I'm not crazy about Tucson, but there are a few sights to see, such as the Sonora Desert Museum. But expect better, warmer weather in Phoenix than in Tucson.
Sorry, can't help with the golf courses, though you're right: there are many.

Thanks for the tips. Now knowing that Phoenix should have warmer weather than Tucson, I may skip Tucson altogether. 60s and 70s is not too bad for daytime. I keep hearing how beautiful Sedona is, wouldn't want to miss it. Do I have any choice other than to drive back down to Phoenix to fly home? There are no major airports closer to GC or Sedona, right? Thanks again.

A few years ago we were in AZ in March. Sedona, Pheonix and Tucson were all in the 70s and 80s. The Grand Canyon on the other hand was maybe 40s during hte day and 30s at night. WHen we arrived at the canyon there was a snow storm and next to no visibility. It cleared up in a few hours and left about 5" snow on the ground.
If you've never been to the Grand Canyon I think it's worth the visit if you have time. EVen with the snow, it's still spectacular. There's a bus that runs along the rim stopping at all the scenic spots.

Since the GC will most likely be cold, what's the best way to view it at that time of year? Bus? I'm thinking it may be too cold for much walking. Has anyone taken the helicopter tour? Either way, do these tours have to be booked in advance or can I do it when I arrive at the GC? Thanks!!
