Avoiding the tunnel
Hello I have to travel to Maryland and do not like to take the tunnel (claustrophobia). I traveled there before and had no choice when arriving I had to take the Harbor tunnel. However, this time I would like to avoid it. When I traveled home on that trip I took a street whose name I cannot recall. By the time I got on the expressway I found that the tunnel was already behind me, I would like to take this street gain or one like it to avoid that tunnel but am not sure of the name or the exits that I need to use I think from the 95 to avoid it. Can anyone help me with this so that I can finally relax about this drive. I will be headed from New York to Baltimore MD near the Meyerhoff Synphony Hall when I do go and then back again. Thanks so much. Dezie

Hey Dezie, if your coming from NY via I-95 into Baltimore, you can get off at Eastern Ave or O'Donnell St which will take you into Downtown.
You could take I-695 towards Towards and take I-83 south into Downtown and exit off at North Ave and your right there At Meyerhoff. The 695 route would have no red lights and you avoid Downtown

Thanks so much Budman and Bluestructure for the help. I will take your directions to my map and then simply relax and enjoy the trip rather than worrying about it anymore. I hope that all of your answers come as quickly and as easily as yours did to me. My best to you both. Dezie. P.S. If you know of any restaurants in Baltimore that have good food and some atmosphere but will not set me back too badly for five people celebrating a graduation over lunch, feel free to share it. I live in New York if I can ever help you too. Dezie

I attend the Baltimore Opera at the Lyric which is near the Meyerhoff - we usually go to Viccino's on Charles Street for a great meal...reasonable prices reservations are necessary- we park at the Maryland Institute lot (it is an old train station). Have fun!
