Thank you all so much for all these replies! I'm so excited now about our trip!
sf7307, I live in the Philadelphia area and were it not for all the mentions in threads when I searched, I wouldn't have dreamt of putting a Whole Foods on my list. But after seeing person after person mention it, there became no doubt in my mind that there must be something different about this one that would make it worth checking out!
The tip on how early to get to a movie at Alamo is jsut the kind of thing I always hope for from Fodorites...the kind of thing we can't know if we've never been somewhere, and that I'd waste some time fretting about, wondering (I know, I know, a waste of time to fret, but I do a bit anyway)
We're in our late 40's so we'll probably just give 6th St. a quick look and mostly head for the other music places. And I am as Book People as they get, complete addict, so a large independent bookstore is a don't-miss for me.
I will now look into Enchanted Rock as a possibility too! Generally we enjoy hiking but I've had some health issues lately so might be doing a little less than usual. Are there shorter/easier hikes available there, that are worth doing?
I'd meant to put Mt. Bonnell on the list but forgot, so thanks for the reminder!
DH would probably love P. Terry's and we both would probably love House Wine. Printing out the other ideas, restaurants, too...We'll need another week!
I will definitely do a trip report, in thanks for all your help and in hope that it might help the next traveler to Austin who comes along...warning: I've only done one trip report on Fodors before and I was a failure at it, people kept telling me how to make it more reader/user friendly so it would get more read, and I had trouble figuring out how to do what they said. But I will try!
If any of you ever need tips on the Phila. area or the Hartford, Connecticut area (where I lived for 26 years), please ask me!
Laura
