Aug06: Guided glacier hiking & landing

Hello All,
I'm heading to Alaska for the first time this Aug. I've done a good amount of research but would appreciate people's input based on their actual experience of Alaska.

Would you please recommend quality glacier hiking experience for beginners (w/ guide, crampons, etc) along our travel route: Seward, Glennallen Highway, Richardson Highway, Valdez, (Whittier Ferry), Talkeetna, Denali. Also, are there place along here where we can take have glacier landing and then do this guided hiking? If it is relevant, we pass close to McCarthy/Kennicott on our route though we were not planning to stop but can consider it? What would be minimum time requirement there for glacier landing/hiking? Thank you

Matanuska Glacier for hiking with guide, with crampons. Stay in Sheep Mountain Lodge.

Talkeetna for flightseeing with landing

For hiking and glacier landing in McCarthy/Kennicott minimum time requirement would be one FULL day. At least.

I have glacier trekked with www.micaguides.com highly recommended. Kennicott/McCarthy is definately worth at least a day. Fly in,then get to the mine at the least.

Welcome back BudgetQueen. How was your trip to Alaska?

I agree about Kennecott/McCarthy. You need at least one day

Is Matanuska Glacier comparable to Root Glacier? Would doing both be overdoing it or would Matanuska be a good substitute?
