attire on catalina island?
we're headed to catalina, this saturday through thursday. first two nights will be spent camping then the next three nights in town at a not-upscale hotel.
question: for wandering about town and at dinner (nothing fancy, we're trying to keep costs down, max $20/person dinner for food, not counting drinks), what should we plan to WEAR?
can we get away with jeans and polo shirt w/ flip flops for him and capri's and tanks, etc. for me?
since we're camping the first two nights, we don't want to have to bring "nice" clothing in addition to our camping gear, snorkel gear, swim stuff, etc etc etc.
thanks!!

TrvlMaven nailed it on the head on Avalon!
5 nights in Catalina is a wonderful thing and I must tell you that life doesn't get any better than Eric's on the pier for beers and burger.
Also, have a buffalo milk at Descanso beach pass the Casino and its a great place on the beach to have drinks.
Best dive bar ever is my fav, Mermaid's...just walking around past Lover's Beach which is excellent for snorkeling to the heli-port has great food & drinks..buffalo burger..
Take the Casino tour.
I love going to the Catalina tile factory too..rent a golf cart..bring your snorkel/mask.
With a boat, we always take a water taxi but for $3-5 dollars, its a great way to catch a boat ride without the tour and its a really fun thing..everyone is usually really nice but can get to be a zoo during the summer but everyone seems to roll with it really well.
Love playing the golf course and they did a nice job on the clubhouse.
Mostly a sarong/flip flops, t-shirt...and lipgloss!
Have a great time!

I concur with Tahiti Tams' list, (especially Descanso Beach) and would like to add:
Luau Larry's for a cocktail and people watching
Big Olaf's for an ice cream in a waffle cone
Doing the 1-hour golf cart rental - touristy but fun - gorgeous views.
Enjoy!

We like Armstrongs Fish Market for a casual dinner. For lunch you must stop by Eric's on the Pier, at the foot of the green pier. It's walk up counter service. We love the combo, a hamburger patty and split grilled hot dog, chili and cheese all on one bun. Also fish and chips, cheese fries or a frozen banana.
