Treasure Cay or Dolphin Beach?
My husband and I are planning a long weekend with our 20 year old daughter
this May. We are primarily looking for:
1.Good Scuba Diving
2.Upscale accomodations (2 bedrooms)
3.Beautiful beach
4.Good restaraunts.
In a quaint low key "Out-Island" enviornment
Our 1st choice was to go to Club Med Columbus Isle. We've been before and it's incredible in every way, BUT, we don't care for the 4 hours it takes to get there from Florida. We're now leaning to the Abaco's. I've been researching and have narrowed my choices to
Treasure Cay or Dolphin Beach Resort. Has anyone recentely stayed at either? Are there any other locations that offer what we are looking for?

I would think that Great Guana would win out over Treasure based on diving. Dive Guana is a short walk from Dolphin Beach. E-mail Troy at Dive Guana ( http://www.diveguana.com/ ) for more information. Depending on on your definition of 'upscale', both areas are competitive. We stayed at Dolphin Beach although not recently. The beach at Treasure gets great reviews but in my opinion it's difficult to beat the one on Guana. For restaurants...is there any better Out Island experience than Nippers?

I agree with RobertB. Dolhpin Beach is on the Atlantic side of Guana Cay, while the Dive Guana operation is across the island on the Sea Of Abaco. You have both worlds, in other words. By the way, it's a 2 minute walk, about 800 feet, "across" Great Guana Cay, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Sea Of Abaco. Troy is a real conservationist and you don't know what you'll see when he takes you out to the nearby reefs. He stopped his boat while a large pod of spotted dolphins, with several newborn babes, came up to play with our boat. It was like a big, white rubber ball to them. The restaurant by Dolphin Beach, right above Dive Guana is superb, both in meal quality and atmosphere. Rent a golf cart from "Donna" in the settlement to tour the island, which is 7 miles long. Definately visit Nippers on a daily basis as well, especially the pig roast on Sundays. HINT
y the Dive Guana docks, there's a breakwall of large boulders, which extends a hundred feet out into the harbor and into the Sea Of Abaco. Snorkel it!! I Id'd dozens of reef fish around that manmade "reef." Also, only 40 feet offshore from Nippers, on the Atlantic side, is a huge coral reef in fairly shallow waters. Also, drive your golf cart to the northern part of Guana and visit Guana Seaside Village for dinner, and to snorkel off their beach. The beaches are owned by every one, and no one will care if you occupy their beach w/o asking. Robert
