Most of the hotels on the boardwalk are quite inexpensive right now.

AC is in a major slump.

Call of couple of the big boys -- you'll get a good deal.

All the major chain motels are available just outside AC. Depending on the time of year you can get some pretty good deals.

Other thsn the Marriott Seaview, please don't consider anything outside of AC. Some are not nice! Follow Gekko's suggestion, you'll get a deal!

A lot depends on when astrosbbh is going to AC!

Saturday nights in summer--nothing even vaguely inexpensive.
Midweek in January? Plenty of usually high end places right in AC for $99 or less.

So--When? How much do you want to spend?

I agree about calling around to the casinos. They have a huge inventory of comped rooms available right now just to get people in to play. I'm sure they are discounting for paying customers as well for the same reason. I'm not sure the casino hotels qualify as "quiet" though.

Depending on why the OP wants to be "not too far" from AC (and what "not too far" means), hotels in Ocean City might also be an option.

Cheapbutnice2,
There are plenty of decent, inexpensive motels on RTe. 30 in Absecon. I work in AC and on nights I need to stay-over I use one of them.

Agreed, and there are some that are not nice and very dangerous! Why don't you recommend a few that you use? In gerneral, I would not describe the Rte. 30 corridor in AC as "quiet or safe".

This morning on the Today Show the Chelsea Hotel was previewed. It a newer non casino hotel. Don't know if it is in your price range. They are offering deals. Good luck.

My advice is to stay in Absecon.

Go to: www.MyJerseyShore.com/hotels_motels.php and click on Absecon.

All of the places listed there (except for the Jonathan Pitney House B&B) will be just what you are looking for. They are all within a few miles of Parkway exit 40 and you'll be in Atlantic City in ten minutes.

They are all reasonably priced and in safe areas. Several of them are near the bay with nothing else around them.
