If you can afford it, stay at the Biltmore. http://www.biltmore.com/stay/hotel/hotel-rates-packages
You will never forget it. Ask the concierge what to see.

We decided to stay in downtown Asheville, so we could get out and see some of the town. I got a suite (there's three adults, because my daughter is going with us) at the Hyatt Place. Seemed like a good location and they have a cool rooftop bar.
One night in Asheville, where should we have dinner? Not fond of fancy, expensive places. A local cafe, restaurant, on the casual side, known for really good food, would be fine.
Also looking for some amazing mountain views within driving distance from Asheville. Please share if you know of any spots. Thank you.

Heavens,
I stayed at the Hyatt Place last October. Went to see changing of the colors.
First the good. The location is very good. Easy to get on the expressway to get around. A short walk into downtown for restaurants, etc.
Now the bad. Rooms on the backside face the highway and it's noisy. We couldn't sleep. The regular rooms have the air conditioning unit right in front of the bed so if the highway noise doesn't keep you up the a/c will.
After our first night we went to the front desk to see is there's anything we could do. We happened to see the engineer who came up to our room. He told us he would have us move to a better room.
Well, better it was and we didn't pay more for it. The room had a foyer entrance, a living room, kitchen, dining room and bedroom. We had a front/side view that was spectacular. The a/c was noisy but who cares when it's in the kitchen and the door from the bedroom is closed.
If I go back to Asheville I don't know where I'd stay. I wouldn't want a regular room and the suite was way more than I'd want to pay or should have to pay for two people.

Here is an article about Asheville from our paper written by our excellent food editor. Tupelo Honey is a great place but as she says, there are others.
