Need suggestions for reasonably priced lodging ($50-$140ish). We are couple (early 30's) - visiting Asheville over Labor Day wknd. I'd love a place w/in walking distance to downtown - but that might not be in my budget..so would be willing to drive a few miles outside of town. Prefer smaller inns/B&Bs but open to unique hotels.

I've happily stayed at the Best Western Asheville Biltmore (just barely north of downtown on Woodfin St - not that close to Biltmore) and while it's not unique, a smaller inn or a B&B, it is in your price range and it is within walking distance to all the great places downtown. It's nothing fancy, but being able to walk to town is worth it.

THat's actually quite a spread/range of price. You should be able to find something - maybe even a B&B? Best Western is ok but have seen/heard comments about noise level and cleanliness. Driving into downtown is easy so think about Pricelining it.

Asheville lodging is wide open - lots of options. I've gotten Priceline downtown. I usually stay at one of the Hampton Inns around town. Asheville is small enough you can drive anywhere in a few minutes.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, just a few minutes from downtown. We got this for a song a few years ago on Priceline. With the money we saved, we splurged on yummy meals at the Grove Park Inn and took some spa treatments there.

There are delightful B&B's in walking distance from downtown - but it's been years since I've stayed in one.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be reading the reviews on tripadvisor and emailing to check rates.

Make sure you eat at Salsa's.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I just booked hotel through priceline. Got the Renaisance for $100 a nite!

Thanks for the feedback. I see now why I never win my Priceline bids! I can't get used to the idea that the Renaissance is a $200/night hotel. Prior to the recent renovation, it was in the $120-ish range. I would now be willing to pay $100 for REnnaissance, but no way I would be happy if I got the Holiday Inn Sunspree/Crowne Plaza for that price.

Anyhow, you got a great location at a good price. have fun!
