Asheville/Charleston/St Augustine
Trip May-June 09
Driving from KS to Asheville NC to see the Biltmore Estate. Is three days enough time to see it?
Next stop is Charleston/ Savannah (3 days??). We were then going to do the SC beaches, but LOVE St Augustine and it isn't far so we will just return there for 5 days.
If we love it and don't get to see everything, I guess we can return another year, but does anyone have recommendations on what to cram into those days in Charleston/ Savannah? Would it really be worth touring the plantations on Ashley River Road after you've spent three days doing The Biltmore?
Any suggestions are welcome from dining to hotels etc. My husband, our 9 yr old son, and myself will be making the trip.

I think 3 days for Biltmore would be a long time to spend. 3-4 days in Charleston would be good, 1 in Savannah, and then fit S.A. if you want. The plantations are just wonderful and unique and never a waste of time. We like Middleton especially. Lots to do in Charleston.

Agree with Gretchen. You can see Biltmore in one day easily. Only Biltmore groupies would stretch it into 2, and 3 would almost require repeating the same tours.
However, you could easily fill those other 2 days in Asheville itself or the areas surrounding it.
Spliting 3 days between Charleston and Savannah would be rushing it.

1 day @ Biltmore, tops, & that is a stretch. Lots to do in & around Asheville. In addition, you'll travel through NC wine country (or close to it en route) if you like wine. www.visitnc.com. From there I'd probably spend more time in Charleston. Savannah is no more than a daytrip too me, unless you are big history buff. Also prefer Amelia Island to St. A. Probably better beaches around Charleston than any of the other places as well.
