Art Basel Miami-anyone else going?

Greetings,

I am going to Art Basel Miami later this week, and wondered if other art-loving Fodorites (besides Jaykay) are going to be there.

For those who are interested, there's an article in The NY Times:

http://travel2.nytimes.com/2005/11/2...pagewanted=all

and the website for the Fair is

www.ArtBasel.com

Perhaps we can have a breakfast on Saturday or Sunday (I've had a few queries already)

Hi Marc! My husband and I went a couple of years ago and had a blast!

A few tips, since the only crowd in South Beach will be the artsy crowd, dress like you are the biggest VIP. Doorman don't know who's who so everyone gets in. The normal South Beach glitterati/hiphop genre isn't in residence.

Take $$$$$. This is one shallow town where money talks and people listen.

Take in the art. See everything you can see and head over to the design district to see some more.

Where are you staying?

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn (don't ask), which is not a bad location. Most of my friends are at the Delano or the Shelbourne. I don't think I'll have much time for clubbing because I've got events starting at 8-9 every morning, throughout the day, and then receptions every night-can't wait to see the Setai! Hopefully won't have to drive much in the evenings (except to the Mozaic Building).

It will be my first visit to Art Basel Miami so I hope it is as good as the other years. Thanks for the pointers.

Oh the Holiday Inn is an excellent location for Art Basel! I don't think there is a hotel closer to the convention center!

I'm having a fit to check out the rooms at the Setai! Their beach area is unreal. The sand is 'patterned' and the beach furniture are sofas, double chaise lounges, coffee tables, and a very nice outdoor bar. The bar they've built on the beach is so cool.

They have three identical rectangular pools and another outdoor bar/restaurant.

Forget on getting any sleep. You'll be out late (really late) every single night. Remember, you can sleep at home!

Have a blast and please write a trip report?
