Arrive in NYC on a Sunday or Monday

Hello we are flexible in our travel schedule and can arrive in NYC on a Sunday or Monday. Just curious as to which would be better? I would assume their might be things closed on Sundays. Arriving on Monday is a little higher hotel and airfare but will pay it if it means there is more chances to do things. Thanks!

There are literally hundreds of "things to do" in NYC that will be open on Sunday. I don't think it makes much difference which day you arrive.

Unless you are traveling in the summer when people are returning from the beaches on Sunday, you are likely to have an easier time getting into the city than on a working day.

The exception would be a large event (Marathon, Gay Pride Rally, President of US).

More museums used to be closed on Monday than Sunday, but that has changed. The only thing that are really closed on Sundays is restaurants and sights in the Financial District. The only days things close down in NYC is Thanksgiving and Christmas and still there will be enough to fill anyone's time on those days.

The City truly does not close.

Almost everything in NYC is open every day -with the exception of some orthodox shops and restaurants which are closed Friday evening and Saturday.

Traffic will be better on Sunday - and transit runs 24/7/365 - so I would definitely arrive on Sunday.

It's almost always more convenient to arrive on a Sunday because traffic is lighter.

If you want to maximize the time you have to see Broadway shows, arrive on Tuesday. Broadway theaters are dark on Mondays. However if your travel day extends into the evening, come on Monday and spend your first night shopping and taking in the sights at night.

I think we are leaning towards leaving out on a Sunday

Absolutely nothing would be closed on a Sunday -- Did someone give you that idea?

I'd much rather arrive on a weekend than on a business day, and Mondays are probably even MORE hectic because it is the first day back at work so the traffic and airports will be even more crowded (same would apply to just about any major city).

Best option would be arrive AND depart on a weekend.

Easy to get into Manhattan via train from JFK AND EWR. Cheap too we just returned from long weekend and took train from EWR. Around 16 a person to Penn station and then subway or cab to hotel on upper west side.

One more thing to mention: if you are in NYC on a day that a place you want to visit is closed, then see something else on that day. Repeat this approach -- see something else on such a day -- until you have seen everything there is to see in The Big Apple, or until the day you die. My experience has been that the latter will happen first -- I've been there fourteen times, and would go again tomorrow if I could.

If you can save money by arriving on a Sunday, the arrive on a Sunday -- there is NO downside to doing so!

Just discovered that arriving on Saturday actually saves me 100 per ticket. Thoughts on a saturday arrival?

Coming on Saturday is fine. You are way over thinking this unless you have pressing obligations in NY or back home.

For goodness sake, just book the ticket and arrive on whatever day you want.

You could go to NYC many, many times and never see everything. As PaulRabe said you would probably die first before getting to all the sights. I'd check the museum schedules but most of them are open 7 days a week except for major holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. A bigger challenge for NYC is not when you arrive or depart but narrowing down what you want to see.

Sunday is the best day in Manhattan.

Everything is relaxed because all the offices are closed.

Easier to get a taxi.

Markets, movie theatres, and brunch spots crowded, though.
