Area Around Los Angeles Union Station?

Just when I think that I'm done with the questions......

When I go to California in October, I will be staying in Monrovia. I'm not too keen on the idea of paying a taxi to/from Union Station the day that I go down to San Diego, so I'm considering taking the bus. I don't own a car and take the bus nearly everyday anyway, so that's no big deal.

The morning bus is an express that apparently puts people off directly at one of the station's entrances. However, I notice on my return trip, I'll have to catch my bus at the Patsaouras Transit Center. I'm not sure how far that is from Union Station and it will be dark, but not late(around 7 PM). Is it an okay area to wait for a bus, or would it be better to just take a taxi?

The transit center is adjacent to Union Station - and the Metrolink Tracks. It is quite nice, and I'm sure it is well lighted. Just ask, as at 7 p.m. I'm sure there will be commuters around to help.

By October, the new light rail system between the San Gabriel Valley and downtown (Union Station) will be operating. It is scheduled to start up in July and last I heard that start date looks firm. This will be a wonderful new travel option for this car-dominated city. I don't know for sure if the train stops in Monrovia itself, but it does stop near there and then proceeds through Pasadena to downtown. You might check the internet, maybe doing a google search for Gold Line Pasadena for more information on the route.

Thank you. I recall someone mentioning the Gold Line to me. I checked and it would put me off in downtown Pasadena a few blocks from where the bus to Arcadia stops. If it saves a substantial amount of time, that's probably what I'll do.
