Are there public transportation options from Massenutten, VA to DC?
Is driving the only option for going from McGayesville, VA area to Washington DC?
We will have a car and could go to a bus / train station but wondered if there were any good public transportation options from that area.

Another option would be the VRE train from Manasses to DC, getting off at either Union station or L'Enfant Plaza.
VRE is the Virginia Railway Express and you can google it for timetabes and rates.

We did this several years ago--stayed at Massanutten, drove into Vienna to a train station and went into DC for the day. Very easy to do, but it was a long day. Here's the Metrorail map so you can decide where you want to get on:
