April weekend trip from New York

Am looking for a 2-3 night weekend trip from NYC in early-mid April. Hubby and I are 30 years old, like to hike and do other outdoor activities, but don't want to be stuck in the cold the whole time! Any suggestions on where to go? Finger Lakes, Lake George? Thanks!

You'll get more ideas if you tell us whether you're willing to fly and whether you have a budget in mind. I agree that early April in the n/e is iffy for weather to do outdoors activities. It's a great time in Washington DC with the cherry blossom festival. http://nationalcherryblossomfestival...dex.php?id=390

If you're on a tight budget, there are cheap buses from NYC on megabus.com and boltbus.com and you could Priceline a hotel room.

A trip to the Berkshires would seem to be a good choice.

Thanks for the responses! I am trying to avoid flying to keep the trip cancellable. We have a car and are willing to drive up to about 4 hours out, and would spend up to $500 on hotels. I don't mind if places are cold at night, but would like weather to be decent enough to do activities during the days.

I don't think that the Berkshires are normally THAT cold in April, certainly usually not too cold for a fun outdoor getaway. As for snow, well, it could happen, but again chances are good that the white stuff won't be falling in April.
If I had the chance, I'd go in a flash!
