Does any one know how the cherry blossom in DC is doing this year? The official site doesn't say much, maybe there isn't any thing to say yet?

Local TV stations reported last week that due to the cold and snow this winter, the openings of the blossoms have not been projected.

From what I have heard from a friend just today, the cherry blossoms are projected to be at their peak on April 4th.

the news today is reporting that peak will be anywhere between April 8 and April 16. The weather is still freakishly cold so it's too hard to pinpoint.

No way will the cherry trees peak on April 4. Since the National Park Service has been keeping records of the blooming dates, the earliest blooming date as been March 15, 1990, and the latest date was marked on April 18, 1958. The average blooming date--that time when the blooms are considered to reach their peak--is April 5 for the Yoshino and April 22 for the double flowering Kwansan trees, mostly seen in East Potomac Park. Looks like this is going to be one of those years when the Cherry Blossom Festival and the actual cherry blossoms don't actually overlap, everything is running late!

Even tho the peak period is between the 8th and 16th, they will start to open about April 1st, and linger on for a while after the peak period. They are remarkable to see at night.
