I was at Osteria via Stato in July and LOVED it. I had been to Alinea the night before, and so it seemed terribly inexpensive at the time.
I hope they have the marinated salmon crudo app when you are there, it was memorable. The caramleized brazillain onions were also a stand-out. I thought the pappardelle bolognese was perfect, and the noodles decidedly al dente. I think I had braised short ribs, also good, but I was STUFFED by then. Not too stuffed to get that burnt caramel gelato, though. delicious.
I did the 'bring me wine', medium range. The wines were very good, and the pours were huge. Compared to the miniscule tastings for $50 I had the night before at Alinea, again, a bargain.
I would dress to be chic, but a "little black dress" would be too much.
I'm surprised by some of the luke-warm reviews you have here, I certainly hope the place hasn't gone downhill, because it is definitely on my return-to list.

WOW. I open my browser and look how many reviews we have! Thank you so much!
I'm probably going to wear pants rather than a dress anyway, since the temps look like it will be painfully cold for this delicate tropical blossom.
