Thanksgiving in Dallas!

Hello!
We are meeting relatives in Dallas for Thanksgiving and will be there Thursday and Friday. We are staying right across the street from the Galleria at the Hilton Suites. (never been there and hope it is nice). We need to find a great place for Thanksgiving dinner. We will want to eat around 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. It would be nice to find something buffet style but GOOD that has the traditional turkey and fixings to choose from. Any help is appreciated. Also, would there be a movie theatre near for taking in a movie that evening. This is the first time that we have not done the cooking at home with all of the family so it is really different for us. There will be 6 adults and at 10 and 13 year old. Thanks for any help!
Tammy

We had an ultra nice holiday meal once at the Hotel Intercontinental, near the Dallas Galleria. You might check with them. I would advise to do so quickly because they might require reservations.

There is a huge AMC movie theatre near the Galleria area. However I recommend making advance reservations for the Cinemark IMAX Theatre at Cinemark 17: 11819 Webb Chapel Rd and take the kids to see the new Harry Potter in IMAX. We already have our reservations to do so!

I should add that Intercontinental will be really expensive and formal, and a much more economical option would be Luby's since you have 8 people. It is a Texas traditional cafeteria, but they always have an all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving buffet. I have eaten there once and it was tasty.

Can we just call to make reservations at the theatre? I will do a search to see if I can find a number for them. Thanks so much for your help! Sounds fun!

I don't know about calling the IMAX place, but you could always use fandango.com. That is how we buy our advance tickets when traveling. You just charge it on your credit card, print your receipt, take the credit card and receipt to the box office and they give you the tickets.

To help with Thanksgiving dinner suggestions, it would help to know your budget. For example, The Mansion at Turtle Creek has a recommended Thanksgiving Dinner but not knowing your guidelines for cost, it's difficult to assist.

Tammy, with an economical budget and a large group, you cannot go wrong with Lubys or Furrs for your meal - probably $10-$12 a person. I hope you enjoy the HP movie in IMAX too!

Tammy....If I am trying ot stay near the Galleria, I choose the Hilton Suites. It is about 3 years old less than 25 yards from the entrance to Macy's garage, which will take you to the Galleria. These are suites, not just "rooms".Very helpful service ad I really like the indoor pool.Parking is $4.This area is about 2 miles south of Belt Line Road in Addison, a vertual cornocpoia of restaurants, one of my favorites is Houston's.I consider Houston's "moderate".Their grilled chicken salad is to die for.If you leave the hotel parking lot, turn right, turn right on Noel Rd, turn right at Alpha Road which is the next light and go right there is a cafeteria not much farther than 2 miles.Enjoy the galleria it is very festive this time of year.you may even want to take in some ice skating at the fabulous rink.

Beachboi, excellent suggestions. How are the lines at Houston nowadays? We used to wait 2+ hours..I also used to order off-menu to get the non-advertised chicken tenders and they were always glad to oblige

Wow! Houstons sounds great! I'm glad to hear the Hilton Suites are nice. We are really anxious to go. I just got back from looking at guidelive.com that mikemo suggested. I found something called "Big Buck Steak house" that has a Thanksgiving buffet. Any knowledge about that? It is about 20 miles away from where we are staying and that isn't too good. I'm going to go check "Houstons" menu now!! I've never been to one. Yes, WSOXREBEL we are really looking forward to the ipex movie. You can make your reservations right online!!! Thank you too, for all of your help.

Big Buck Steakhouse is at the Bass Pro Outdoor World in Grapevine. It will take you about 15 minutes to drive from the Galleria to Grapevine, especially on Thanksgiving since there will be little traffic. (It's straight west on 635.) I've eaten at the Big Buck before, and it was pretty good. It's safe to say that the food will be better than you'll get at Luby's or Furr's. The atmosphere is nice; it's like a mountain lodge.

Too bad Bass Pro won't be open.. I'm guessing anyway. My husband LOVES that store. On a shopping..note.. would it be better to get up early Friday morning to shop the specials (if there are any) at the Galleria or to drive to the factory outlet mall and shop there early. I think the factory outlet mall is in Allen Texas. I put it in mapquest and it came up around 20 miles or so from the Galleria. Has anyone shopped there and is it worth the drive?

There will be TONS of specials on Friday morning. Get a Dallas Morning News on Thanksgiving day and check out the sales flyers the night before. Valley View Mall is also right by the Galleria Mall, and it has more moderate stores like Dillard's, Foley's, JC Penney, etc.
