LOL - when I saw the title of this thread, I thought maybe it was about Kentuckians who have moved to Massachusetts (I am one) - or folks from Massachusetts who have moved to Kentucky. Is there a word for residents of Massachusetts? I know people who live in Cambridge are Cantabridgians (not sure if the spelling is correct) -now, that's weird!

Yes, the weather has definitely been unusual this summer - I enjoy thunderstorms, but this is getting ridiculous!

There is a name for residents of MA (I am one), but it can't be repeated in polite company.

I'm from MA as well, and know the name of which you speak. LOL.

With all the threats of pop-up thunderstorms, I'm leery of walking a few miles every evening like I normally would. There isn't any shelter along the route.

I've noticed that most of the people hanging out at the waterfront in my area have started to ignore the thunder and lightning until we get an actual downpour. They make me so nervous, especially those with kids!

I don't know the unprintable name!

Here we go again. 3 big in less than 24 hours! The summer of 08 will be recorded as the summer of violent storm alerts.

Last night the hound jumped on my sleeping body licking my face till I woke up to demand attention as the house shook!

gyppie -

It starts with the word mass and ends with the word hole. It is usually yelled out a car window and accompanied by a raised digit.

And I agree that the weather this summer is unlike any I have experienced in my life.

I guess I'm a pretty good driver! Never heard that, or maybe I'm won of those aggressive drivers that doesn't pay attention to them?

Like Sara, I thought you were talking about a mixed marriage between someone from Massachusetts and someone from Kentucky!

OO, I recognized your old zip code! I live in the same county and the weather has certainly been strange here. The thunderstorms have been spotty--just a few miles make a big difference. Just the other evening I came out of the grocery store and it was pouring to beat the band. I decided to wait it out. As it passed there was a wonderful rainbow and as I rode back home, 200 yards from the store, the road was bone dry and like that all the way home (about a mile).

We have been hammered with rain, large hail, thunder/lightning, trees, down, etc. while your old 01201 was spared. It has also happened the other way around.

But in spite of it all, I love it here.

My sister and I live 4 miles apart in suburbs just south of Boston, and are often amused by the differences in our "local climates." She's had hail a couple of times this summer, but I've had none. Or she invites me over to help in the garden, and I say, "But it's pouring out!"

This variation of experiences makes me wonder about the accuracy of the reported rain totals for the region. Do they take measures in several locations and average them out?

Gyppie, just curious: where did you come up with the term massetuckian?
When I googled the word, it led me back to this site. I looked under demonyms (place names for people, but of course everyone knows that) and the names given for people from Massachusetts were either Massachusites or Bay Staters, with Bay Staters given preference.

Words fascinate me and every time I come across a new one, I have this need to know about its origin, etc. Thanks for filling me in!

The weather continues to roll in and roll out daily.

Tre Bizzarre!

Irish, a friend said the word in my childhood. I have known and used it since. Perhaps he coined the word after all?!?!
