Any dress code for San Diego restaurants?

Leaving this Friday for a week's stay in La Jolla.Have our itinerary well planned thanks to all of you who have given us advice. My husband wants to know if he needs a jacket for any of the restaurants or can he go in a nice sweater and slacks to the upscale dining places not that we intend to do that more than one or two times. As always, your help is appreciated

We had dinner at George's at the Cove in La Jolla, probably the most upscale restaurant there.

Smart casual attire would be okay - like chinos, sporty jacket, no tie. A nice sweater will probably do.

Smart Casual and the only place I know in SD to wear a jacket is the Turf Club at the Del Mar Racetrack..

San Diego is very casual too, jeans are fine. Jeans is dressed up from my husband, he's usually in shorts but it has been a little cool for San Diego this week.

I'm not sure that jeans are fine for George's, the Marine Room, Mille Fleurs, and similar places. Certainly not for Rancho Valencia's dining room. For George's Terrace upstairs, yes, but not for the main dining room.

Been to all of the restaurants Barbara has mentioned many times and there were people in our party that had jeans on..no holes..
I think that they would prefer that you had khaki's but we have never been turned away..

Well, I didn't say they would turn anyone away and I don't recall seeing anyone- male or female- wearing jeans on any of the multiple occasions I've eaten at these places.

Also, most of the men wear jackets whether or not they are required.

Thanks to all of you for responding. My husband has decided to take 1 sport jacket with him even though he probably won't need it according to the majority opinion. Getting excitednvas we leave this Fri. Your weather is a little cool but compared to Chicago today you are having a heat wave!!!!
