Any bikers here? Need Keys Trip advise!
OK...Gonna try and start planning our Keys trip for next year.We will be spending 99% of our time on the Harley. At first we were thinking about homebasing it in Homestead, but I'm thinking that might not be feasible. Now I'm thinking Islamoralda. Can anyone give me advice on a nice hotel, nothing too expensive, that would welcome bikers? There will be at least two couples.
Also want advice on what is a can't miss. Where's good places to eat and wet our whistles. We hope to spend at least 5 days there. Any other thing you bikers out there can tell me? They are leaving all the planning up to me, so I'm at a loss on where to start.
THANKS!

Well, I'm not a biker, but I've stayed at the Kona Kai in Key Largo. Really wonderful place. It's not a hotel, but very few places in the Keys are. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and have full kitchens with glasses and flatware, etc. Kona Kai is not far from grocery stores. And there's a great place to eat (can't remember name) right across the street - casual and great food. Actually, just about everything in the Keys is casual and relaxed - the restaurants, resorts, the driving. Most resorts allow cell phone use in the rooms only. They can be particular about noise, only becaue people go to the Keys to really chill out. We like Kona Kai and would stay there again. The beach there is for sunbating only, as are most beaches on the Keys; very few are for swimming. Of course, Key Largo is at the beginning of the Keys. Then again, you could take a casual drive to Key West and back in a day (we did-in a car). As far as Islamorada is concerned, my boss stayed either at Casa Morada or the Moorings; both are nice. Hope I helped.
