Another Kauai Question...
I am revising the Anini Beach day since there is no Polo in April and after hearing that it is not a good idea to go to Secret Beach at sunset. How about going to Secret Beach in the morning and then Anini in the afternoon on the same day since they are close to each other and maybe seeing the lighthouse too? Is there a place to grab a lunch in that area??? Also, any info on the secret lava pools by Secret Beach? Is the lighthouse open on Sundays? What about seeing Kalihiwai Falls? Are they worth going to see???
Thanks for your help!

Hi Ashley...we just returned Sunday from Kaua'i. It is a beautiful island, albeit very wet right now. Because the road was washed away, we spent most of our days on Anini Beach. From there, you can see the Lighthouse Point...so pretty! The lighthouse itself closed while we were there. I think because the walkway up to the lighthouse had washed away. From the overlook, we could see safety cones places along the walkway. So, we never made it down the hill to the lighthouse, but the vantage point from the overlook was wonderful too. The closest place we found around there was the Lighthouse Bistro. It is NOT at the Lighthouse; it's about 1 mile back to town. There was a guy selling fish tacos at the Anini Beach pavillion...haha. It was too wet for us to even slide down to Secrets, so I can't help there. We did slide down to Hideaways, and it was breathtaking! MAKE SURE you have good hiking shoes (ie Keens) if your going during wet weather. Secret Beach and Anini are basically side by side, so your fine there...just take a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. The restrooms were nice and clean at Anini. Have a wonderful trip! Pray for sunshine!!!!

In Kilauea, at the back of the Farmers Market Store, there's a counter where they make sandwiches. They are quite tasty.
The bakery in Kilauea becomes a pizza place around noon and sometimes has sandwiches as well.
The K Falls are easy and quick, so yes, they're worth stopping to see.
Secret in the morning and Anini in the afternoon is a great duo. Sunset at Anini is not awesome, however. You might want to hop in the car about a half-hour before sunset and head for the road before the lighthouse or the Princeville bluffs.

Ashley24, your plan sounds good! They are so close to each other you can hop back and forth anyway. I agree you should pack a picnic lunch and take it with you.
visormom....did you do any hiking? I remember your earlier post asking about good hikes. I hope it wasn't too wet to hike as well, although it sounds like it was.

Anini Road suffered no damage ('cept for the usual winter small mudslides).
Our highway is the normal 2 lanes, except when it goes to one-lane only near mile marker 22 -- but only for a 100 foot section. Police are on-scene 24/7 to direct traffic. Typical wait in line now is down to no more than a few minutes.

Ashley24... Sorry... I don't mean to hijack your thread... but I have a few questions regarding Keoniana Kai and it appears you're the only person I can find that has stayed there.
If you're willing to answer a few questions about the property... please email me or I can start another thread and point you in that direction. I'm trying to plan small wedding (6 people) in Kauai (Sept).
I hope to hear from you.
