Another Broadway Question

I've done a search on this topic but really can't find my answer... We - 2 "Middle aged" women (IF we live to 100+) and two 17 year old girls, heading to NYC in early August. Our first choice was Wicked but is about sold out (unless we pay a premium or all sit alone...) So I'm trying to fiugre out what show we all might like.

My daughter and her friend want to see Legally Blonde or Rent. My other friend would like to see The Color Purple. (I really don't care. I saw Rent here in Austin several years ago and didn't care for it.) We considered Xanadu, but for over $110 and 90 minutes, not sure I want to do that.

SO, suggestions? Rent? Color Purple? Legally Blonde?

Hairspray is a good compromise. Love that show. As you 've said, the two girls would prefer Legally Blonde or Rent. If you've already seen Rent, then you could suggest a show you haven't already seen. That way you wouldn't have to see Rent again. BTW, I am a middle aged woman but like Rent alot. I have seen it twice. The first time didn't like it so much-the second time was much better. It didn't have anything to do with the content-the second time I saw it was better talent and better staging although both were touring companies.

Why don't you let the girls see Rent and you all go to The Color Purple? Meet up after for dessert and compare shows . . . Or maybe all 4 of you would like Spring Awakening . . .

Oh, sorry, we saw Hairspray in 04...but the idea of Rent AND Color Purple is a good one!

Wicked was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Personally, I think it's worth sitting alone for this one. It's incredible.

Have you seen Mamma Mia? It is an incredibly fun and entertaining show.

I would like to second Mamma Mia. And suggest Spelling Bee. What about Jersey Boys?

I's suggest waiting until you get here and head downtown to the TKTS booth at the corner of Water and Fulton St at the back of the Prudential Building and get whatever is available that night. There are several new shows opening soon including "Young Frankenstein". After you get the tickets explore the South St. Seaport or take the bus up to Chinatown for some Dim Sum.

Have a great time.

It is very easy to split up, let everybody see what they want, and then meet afterwards. Many times I have gone to the TKTS booth with my daughter or friends and we all have gotten single seats to our own first choices. The theaters are close enough together to easily go out to dinner together beforehand and then re-group after the show.

Recently I have seen Chorus Line, Spamalot, Grey Gardens, Drowsy Chaperone and loved them all.

We have decided to split up. The girls are 17 and wouldn't think of sitting alone. ;-) Now as for myself and my friend, I'll ask. She's never been to NYC so I don't know. Thansk for the suggestions.

No reason to be joined at the hip. Let the girls see Rent and you and the other mom see Color Purple - and join up afterwards for a drink/dessert or at the hotel.

The girls might really like Putnam County Spelling Bee...and I'd recommend Mamma Mia for the adults. Loved both shows!
