Anniversary in Maine (Sept_)

Hello all you travelers out there. Need help in planning a trip to Maine in September. This is our 10th Anniversary, and would love ideals on where to stay and what to do. I have a passion for the water, and love Bed and breakfast places, plus seafood!(can't get enough of that!)....It will be the middle of September that we plan to go, and will either fly into Boston, or Portland. Any ideals? Thanks!

YES! We had a fabulous weekend at the Black Point Inn, Prouts Neck, outside Portland. Excellent restaurant with steaks and lobster, quiet porch rockers, beautiful cliff walk, hub-bub of Portland close-by - Perfection! We had a spacious corner room in a separate cottage from the main building and really loved it. Had a private porch with views of two sides of the ocean. Very private.

Some airport advice...don't rule out flying into Manchester NH. Their prices often beat Boston and is only an hour and a half or so from Southern Maine.

Second to the Manchester suggestion. Flew there last summer. Cheap fare and very manageable airport. Take a look at The Cliff House in Ogunquit. www.cliffhousemaine.com. Southern Coast, close to Kittery, Kennebunks etc. Beautiful facilities, nice packages ("Yankee Catch Package") and very nice restaurant on site. Indoor and outdoor pools and right on top of the ocean. Ogunquit is a beautiful town with nice shopping and great restaurant variety, but consider making reservations in Kennebunkport at The White Barn Inn if you want to splurge for the anniversary meal.

If this is going to be when the leaves start turning, make reservations SOON.

Try Camden. It's about an hour and a half north of Portland, but it is an absolute gem of a seacoast town. Norumbega and the Inn at Sunrise Point both are wonderful inns, and very romantic. Norumbega is a big old Victorian with porches overlooking the ocean. The Inn at Sunrise Point is more modern, but it's right on the water and is run by a former travel writer who has made this his perfect inn. We spent an afternoon sitting in the town park overlooking the water, reading, playing Scrabble, and eating wonderful breads and cheeses from the local upscale market.
