Anchorage Hotels

I have been looking at hotels in downtown Anchorage for the end of June, especially the Holiday Inn-Downtown or the Voyager Hotel in Anchorage.
Has anyone stayed at either of these two hotels? I would like someplace downtown, but not too expensive - no more than $170/180.

I'd use Priceline. You'll do fine.

Used to live in Alaska and traveled to Anchorage frequently for business. Have stayed at a number of downtown hotels.
Avoid the Holiday- Inn. It is loud, noisy, and not well taken care of, in my opinion. I would never stay there. The Voyager is fine. A small hotel with no restaurant or snack bar. Clean and ok. A couple of other places to check out: Clarion Suites, Westmark, Hawthorne Suites, Captain Cook, Hilton. All good hotels and all centrally located in downtown Anchorage. I would recommend any of these. It has been a few years since I left Alaska so I don't know what the summer rates are running. Good luck. Just stay away from the Holiday Inn.

Agree re the Holiday Inn - it's undoubtedly better managed now, but acquired an early and persistent reputation as a dump (below-street level rooms tended to become warm winter havens for street folks who could jimmy the ground-level windows), things like that. Pity.

The Voyager is okay but very small and as Brenda says it has very little on-site amenity.

The Cook, Hilton, and Sheraton may be over your limit (but Priceline is an excellent idea, just find out what star level the Holiday Inn is and bid one star higher.) I like the Hawthorn, located on the Park Strip just a few blocks south of the Captain Cook.

The Voyager is small, but one of the best downtown values. No, I've not stayed there, but have done business with most of the properties in town which includes open house events.

The Holiday Inn was remodeled 2 or 3 years ago. And, the area is cleaning up nice.

I stayed at the Anchorage Marriott and it was wonderful - even has an indoor pool.
