Anchorage, Alaska without a car

I'll be in Anchorage next week for a meeting (July 18-22) and there are no rental cars available. So what's available in the way of Anchorage attractions and day tours from the area?

Thanks

Hmmm. I'm not sure why there are no rental cars available. Have you tried Fox Rent-A-Car <http://www.foxrentacar.com/locations...00838001290&>?

Bummer - Nothing there either.

I suspect I'm looking too late and the cars are all reserved. That's what's prompted my request for attractions, etc. without a car.

Try the 19th for your first rental date. I'm seeing availability w/ Enterprise for the 19th, also Payless for both days, albeit rather expensive. But then rental cars in Anchorage are expensive throughout the summer anyway.

There are numerous day tour options - Whittier for Glacier cruises, Native Heritage Center, flightseeing from Lake Hood or Merrill Field...

Start with the Visitors' Bureau website and go on from there - http://www.anchorage.net/

Check out this website that has info on public transportation in Anchorage. It talks about a free shuttle from Anchorage downtown to Fish Creek, where you could watch locals fish for salmons. Maybe try the public bus (not sure how efficient) or taxi. Or take a bus tour? To get out of town (like to Seward), take the train.

How about the train to/from Seward? Have you considered a day trip there, perhaps taking one of the Kenai NP boat tours? Good luck with your planning!
