American Airlines flight cost

Well I guess it's true that the early bird gets the worm! Been looking at flights from Detroit to Leon Mexico for last several wks to see if cost goes down. Be darned if I didn't check today and the cost has gone UP $150 for each of us! Should we bite the bullet now or do they fluctuate the fares every week?

More like every day - as planes fill up, the cheapest seats are sold, leaving more expensive ones, plus AA just announced a big 3Q loss yesterday, so "revenue enhancement" is in the wind.

Look at alternate dates before taking the plunge, but don't expect prices to winter vacation destinations to get lower as winter approaches. A little counter-intuitive, doncha think?

Flight was $640 Can. and now up to over $850 Can. taxes incl. We're going mid February. We can take another flight at the cheaper fare so will probably do that. Just the times aren't as good.

My experience is that fares vary considerably over time. I was checking a flight on Travelocity, and the fares changed every day or few days, and even during some days.

Since the fare has now gone up, you might check on the number of seats available, which you can see when you are asked to get a seat assignment, even before you pay for the ticket. I did this, and when I saw that the seats were selling out, I got scared and bought the ticket.

Turns out that in a few days, the fare had gone down for a day, even though there were just a few seats left. You can't always win, but at least I had the seat. >-
