Ambassador Theater
Can anyone suggest a good sushi or italian restaurant near the Ambassador Theater? Or any good restaurant? Type of food is not really an issue as long as its good. We will be seeing Chicago there on Sun 10/03 and would like to have dinner after the show somewhere nearby. Also, I've heard the about a restaurant called TAO thats supposedly very good. Has anyone eaten there and if so do you recommend it?

Tao (east 58th) is good and fun and sexy and a "see and be seen place" but....it's not near the theater (west 49th) and an early dinner after a matinee won't be when the place is buzzing. But it may be easier to get a table then. You can certainly try it.
Nearer the theater, try Esca or Orso for Italian or Sushi Zen.

Thanks mclaurie. I guess I should've mentioned that we'll be seeing the 7pm show so it will be a late dinner. I guess we'll go to Tao on another night since it's not near the theater. This may sound like a dumb question but is there a specific night to go to Tao thats better that any other night ie thursday night better than a monday night or does it not matter? We'll be there thurs-tues.

We did Tao fairly recently. Actually in my open going at 10 or 10:30 after theatre is ideal -- so long as you have reservations. Busy any night but weekends probably even more so. It will just be starting to "hop" at 10. We went after a show and made our reservations for 11:00. Be prepared for a lot of noise, but it is fun. I thought the food was a step below P.F. Chaing's, good but not fantastic.
Baldoria is a great "classic Italian" on 49th near 8th, very close to your theatre, but pretty pricey. The "ever popular" Becco with their three pastas of the day served at your table is great for after theatre also. It's on 46th just west of 8th -- a short walk from the theatre.

On a Sunday night in the theater district, it might not be so hard to find one to go to Tao's. I'd give it a try. Fri & Sat are always the busiest anyplace.
