Amazing House, Sedona

Just back from vacation in Sedona. Can anyone tell me about the gigantic house being built near the Chapel of the Holly Cross? Who owns it? The most amazing house I have ever seen.

Locals understand that particular house has been built by a Romanian doctor who holds a lucrative patent of some sort. It is without doubt the most outrageous and tasteless piece of junk to be found in our town. Unfortunately, the structure falls within local construction requirements. We pray for a very localized earthquake.

Is this it?

“On the same trip we were told that the monster house by the chapel was Nick Cage's, Johhny Depp and then finally we were told it was the Dr. who invented the laser for Lasik eye surgery and he is from Romania.”

Only a four car garage? Seems like too small a number for a house with a freaking intergalactic telescope.

Yeah, I was told it was the house of the Lasik eye procedure creator as well.

And, like the original poster, I LOVE that house - though it needs more land around it.

USNR: I'll pray with you.

And how about, from the blog vjp posted,

~~~While they were in town they stopped to look for a grocery store because Oprah said " there is no place to eat in this town".~~~
That strikes me as hilarious, but then I so dislike Oprah.
I've only visited Sedona once, and thought it was magnificent (and I did find great local dining).
It's pretty tasteless, but I guess I feared worse. I feel for the locals who have to gaze on the thing daily,; and enough people who have been to and love Sedona feel proprietary about the place, so it hurts to see it uglified. (I know, too, that Arizona is notoriously big on property rights, which means there is probably no zoning law that can stop something like this from being built.)
Wow! They are still building that thing. I was in Sedona 4 years ago, and I think it was under construction then. Or maybe this is another giant house?
I thought Sedona had strict zoning and construction regs? Everything has to "fit" in.
Very sad...the decline of this wonderful town continues. It was really quite nice when I first visited in the 1960s.
I guess it goes to show you that all the money in the world can't buy good taste.
Too bad you did not buy property in Sedona when you were here in the 1960s. Land costs have multiplied, anywhere from six to ten times.
But consider this: we are a town today of only 12,000. Phoenix grows by that much every six weeks -- and has done so for years and years.
It looks like a catering hall.
I was in Sedona sixteen years ago and loved it. I can understand why locals are upset with that construction.
